Slim profile filters and lens caps

Hi all. I've just bought Sigma 10-20 to use on my 40D and thought I might put a UV filter on it for protection. After a fruitful search here and a lot of reading it seems that as many are for this as are against it! Well being a picky sort I decided to get one, a slim profile type I think to avoid vignetting. However I have one niggle. Do these slim filters allow the use of a normal lens cap? Also, would a normal thickness filter cause much of a vignetting problem at 10-12mm anyway? Thanks in advance for any advice.:)

Most certainly do, if not all. If you must... But get a good one (Hoya Pro1, HD).

B+W standard slim filters I know need a lens cap that slips over the outside of the filter - there is no thread to clip in a normal lens cap.
I do understand that they have launched a new filter - the XS-PRO which has a slim mount and threads for a normal lens cap. Currently available as a clear protection filter

Why not get a polariser? Not only will it protect your lens, you'll get lovely effects from it too, they are brilliant on UWA lenses.

Some people get uneven sky colouring, but this can be dialled out, while some even like this effect! My 10-22 has my polariser permantly attached to it!
