Looks like you had some sun Chris, liking. :D

Sooking up all that vitamin D.

Nice pics, look a touch oversharpened though.

Nice birdies, the first shot of Jet is a cracker and your man Titch looks like an absolute beauty Chris!

Tara

Thanks Tara its appreciated (y)

Handsome bird like the way he's sunbathing :)
Pete

Nice pictures - not the most flattering of backgrounds though!

Would LOVE to have a go at falconry - amazes me......... especially the speeds those Perry's can get up to.

Was on the One show the other night - dropped some bait off the top of a tower, and the falcon got it before it hit the ground......

Thats a lovely pere x lanner! (jet)
The harris looks to be a good size for a male too..
Great shots btw. (y)

And you thought photography was addictive / expensive :D
Just you wait lol

120 mph in a "tear drop" stoop is not uncommon, 180mph is about "tops"
apart from the artificial record attempts then they record speeds of approaching 250mph

Thanks (y) Jets working weight is around 1lb 9oz
Titch is around 1lb 5oz ( about average for a 1st year hawk) that'll increase in his second year to around 1lb 6 or 7oz

Cheers Stu (y)
I'm lucky in that respect none of these three can work the remote :D

Nope thats it, 3 is enough. Each has a "job" to do
although the two longwings (Jet & Mason) are interchangeable (y)

Nice trio Chris, what do they do for a living ?

Absolutely stunning creatures Chris , do you work them with your GSP ?
That is something amazing to watch, bird and dog working together

Most normal people have a rubber tree in the office window
Lovely set (y)

Beautiful birds!
Thanks (y)

Nice trio Chris, what do they do for a living ?
Cheers Alby (y) they are bird deterrent hawks
feral pigeons from around shopping areas etc and gulls from landfill site(s)
Lovely birds, well done.
Lance.
Thanks (y)

No not these hawks, I used to, in the past, purely for sport, but these are working hawks not hunting hawks.

Ok enlighten me Chris, I've had friends hunt with hawks in the past but what is the difference between that and a working hawk

Ideally a working ( deterrent ) hawk isn't entered (has not killed)
and is lure bound. ie will fly around and stoop to the lure but ignore anything else,
although the gulls don't know that of course :D

Having said that it doesn't always go to "plan" either :D

Cheers for the info, should have realised :D
A neighbour of mine used to hunt the fields with a springer spaniel and a harris hawk, I could watch them for ages.
Mmmm I've seen these display birds go off and kill in the middle of a show, it's the crowd reaction that has me in fits :LOL:

Yep it can be quite funny, as most people don't actually realise that they are predators ;)
and think that they are fed on cat / dog food

Unfortunately, I can't really have a hawk "preparing" a feral pigeon, to eat, in the middle of a shopping centre now can I? The locals tend to get a little peeved :D

Oh I don't know, bird stripping in public might make Page 3 :LOL:

Thank you (y)

Gorgeous bird. Must be great owning one of them.

Thanks Andy (y)
They do take a little looking after,
But need no more "attention" than you would ( should) give to a dog
.

JET is a lovely dark bird, and dont harris's look great in juvinile plumage, shame they have to go the dark brown.

Thanks Gary (y)
Jet seems to have taken the best markings from both sides ;)

Some Harris's "hold" the different shades but some do go very dark.
From all the ones that I have ever seen, it seems to be a regional thing.
The darkest being the little Mexican ones.

You must feel very proud Chris owning such great creatures as these, all look in lovely condition.(y)

Thanks I appreciate that (y)

I've been around ( hunted with and flown) birds of prey for many years
And they still hold a very strong fascination for me.
