Hello all,

I am slowly building up my gear. I will have the following:

30D or 40D
Canon 50mm 1.8 II
Canon 55-250mm IS

And, that will do me for a little bit. However, I am sure that I will want something a bit wider fairly soon.

So, what is available? something like an 18-55, but better I guess?

Budget would be around £150, and I don't mind used lenses.

Thank you,

Chris.

Think 150 quid will be rather limiting for a decent wide angle lens, reckon the 18-55 IS would be decent enough

I did have a Tokina 19-35 on my old Pentax K100D, that was a cracking lens and only about 70 quid.
There are a few versions, so look out for the one with the AF193 designation that has the glass made by Hoya

What about a Canon Converter 1.4 x which would give your present lenses a boost at only one stop loss ? I am about to get one myself for that reason, so if anyone has one ? or I buy new.

I managed to pick up a Canon 17-85mm IS USM for £150 S/H.

I think he wanted something a little wider not longer :)

Maybe a 2nd hand sigma 17 - 70. About the right budget too

Don't think it's compatible with the 55-250mm?

Definitly wouldn't fit on the 55-250 - and I don't think it would work on the 50mm either.

Canon 18-55 IS
Sigma 17-35mm
Tamron 17-35mm

Cant find a Tamron 17-35 anywhere? Only a 17-50 F2.8, which is way over budget.

I'm thinking I'll go for a kit IS lens, and see how often I use it. If it becomes a popular choice, I'll lookout for a 17-35 F2.8 Sigma, or maybe a 17-70 Sigma.

Thanks,

Chris.

Hello!

Would this offer a massive increase in quality over an 18-55 IS Canon Kit lens?

Sigma 18-50mm f2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM

Thanks,

Chris

Sigma 15-30? Gets you a 24mm with crop factor
