Can any one recommend a good sharp zoom for my Sony a77 I don't want to pay more than £150?

Thanks

What focal length range are you after?

With that budget I would probably be looking at a prime (unless you really, really need a zoom), the Sony 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8 or 85mm 2.8 are all great lenses within your budget.

I would need up to 120mm I'm not fussed about the shorter end though

Thanks

For that sort of money I would recommend the legendary Minolta 70-210 f4 beer can.

It's sharp and fast. It does suffer a bit from CA but that's easily correctable in post.

I have one sat under my desk. Forgot to sell it when i sold my Sony gear lol. Not sure where in the world you are but if you are local to the East Mids area you are welcome to come try it.

*Edit* Note, I wasn't offering to sell it...just trying to be helpful. Just to clarify. If I really wanted to sell it I would have by now. Keeping it in case I ever get another Sony SLT at a bargain price.

that's very kind of but I'm a bit far away but that lens sound ideal and I'm currently scouting eBay for one
Thanks very much for your help

Look at dealers as well - people tend to get carried away on feebay and bid the prices up too high, plus it's a bit of a lottery. I got one from Cameraworld last year for £75 with a 6 month warranty - most stores will give a warranty of 3 months to 1 year (usually 6 months though) with used gear. Ffordes often have Minolta AF lenses. Try and get one with a hood - for the price it's a fantastic lens, especially considering it was last made in the 1980's. :)
