Sony Handycam screen not working

I decided to have a play with my older sony handy cam. This has not been used in about 5 years so got it out of its box and charged the battery, it charged great so all good i thought then switched it on, adjusted the settings a little and then the screen started to go a little funny.
I thought it will settle down in a minute but it just then went lots of blue lines down it with no picture etc.

Switched it off and back on and screen was ok, so started to have a little play and again the screen went blue lines, but the images it recorded where fine.
Any ideas what could be wrong or is it just fit for the scrap heap now???

could be the ribbon that goes through the screen hinge thats become worn/damaged

Thanks for that, seems a logical explanation but all its done is sat in its case for the last few years.
Ah well never mind never used it anyways.
