Ray, its a shame that the pier clashes with the meeting point of sand and sea.

get closer to the pier, right up close and squeeze the pier across the frame. Bracket a few shots and merge them in photoshop. Should get something much more dramatic.

Im sure it would walls unfortunately its the photoshop bit that i cant do:shrug:
 
It's the "problem" with wide angle lenses and the reason I sold my
Sigma 10-20, it didn't suit the type of shots I like take...having said that many people enjoy these lenses immensely.

The key to a good shot with these is strong foreground, getting the balance right between foreground and the main subject can be a bit tricky sometimes though
