Spare Battery or New Card

Just going to top up my camera gear before the month's out; so quick question about what to get for my 500D,

Spare battery - LP-E5
or
New SD Card - (SanDisk Extreme III SD Cards (SDHC) 20 MB/s - Class 6)

The SD card I have at the moment is an 8GB Sandisk Ultra

Which fills up or runs out first?

That should be your guide.

I just got one of the 32gb Sandisk 60mb/s cards from Amazon for £130.

Stuck it in my 5D2 (21mp Raw) and the count goes to 999 available shots.

If I add large Jpegs into the mix it goes down to 934.

Worth considering as it's a good long term prospect.

and a compatible battery from the Evil Bay for less than a tenner

I agree, if you go for a 3rd party battery you can get both the battery and card for around £25 or less. That is exactly what I did

Your up sh** creek without a paddle if you run out of power, miles away from anywhere, no matter how many cards you have in your bag.

I'd go the new battery route.

Yeah, at least with memory you can always clear a few shots off, but there's nothing worse than missing a potentially amazing shot because you're out of battery.

Of course, it is all down to your particular needs.

I got a couple of Hama LP-E5s from the by of fleas, brand new with 5 year guarantee for £5 each, seller was Wilkinsonscameras and they even came with free shipping.

On the cards my local Sainsburys had a deal on SDHC recently, might be worth a look.
