I love some of the pictures you guys are posting in here and thought I'd give it a try with some extension tubes. I know the lighting isn't right, and I'm finding it difficult to get the focussing right (so much to learn), but thought I'd post up my effort.

Haven't got a clue what sort of spider it is, as I've never looked at them this closely before. Any pointers or tips will be greatly appreciated.

for macro photography i would recommend manual focus and rock back and forth until you are happy before shooting

lighting isnt easy with macro and proper macro flashes are expensive but can also be used for portraits too bu i think you have done very well especially for a first go what lens did you use?

It's called a "garden spider" or "cross spider" (see the white cross on its abdomen)

(y) not bad for a first try.

Not much wrong with that. You've captured a lot of detail there. Good work.

Welcome to the world of macro, nice shot! :) keep it up and your learning period will be short.. i will be learning all over again as i have just ordered my first dslr, the nikon d90 :) :) :)
