Springtail again

Another common springtail (Orchesella villosa)

This one was on the path tonight, and I touched its ass end to make it leap onto a sheet of white kitchen paper.

Taken indoors, flourescent light and a silver reflector. Once on the PC I noticed it had only one full antenna. Made me wonder if it was any less able to get around, but then again, it was a fully grown specimen (just about 4mm in length) so I suppose it has done OK so far!

WDYT?

I dunno what the heck that is - but it is a an awesome photo!! I had no clue it was only 4mm until I read your text which make the photo even better. A great capture and having it on the kitchen paper works nicely.

Only thing I'd say is having them on leaves or what not gives a sense of scale which you don't get here.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Springtails don't go on leaves.

Not unless they are dead leaves ;) ...lots of them in the leaf litter in the woods :)

Nice clean shot.....was it that yellow or did the flash on the white paper do that? Have only seen brown ones before (but haven't seen them up here :( ).
