Standard Zoom for an Alpha...

As much as I love my 30mm Sigma, it's not getting the attention it deserves. I don't do much serious photography these days and would find a fast standard zoom more useful. Something I can leave on the camera 90% of the time. So, can anyone recommend anything for me? I have the 55-200 range covered but once the Sigma is gone I'll have nothing other than the kit lens.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Good question! Depends what I get for the 30mm Sigma I suppose. They're quite expensive to buy new (almost £400). I guess I'd spend £300ish. There seems to be a few zooms around covering different amounts e.g. 18-50, 18-70, 18-200! I'm a bit fussy about sharpness but would also like it to be bright and focus reasonably quick.

I'd second the Tamron 17-50mm

I've got a Minolta 24-105mm and though it's a great lens 24mm just isn't wide enough on a cropped sensor but the Tamron fits the bill nicely.

Yeah, been looking at the Tamron and Sigma. never had a Tamron before though. Similar build quality to the Sigma I assume?
