I am looking towards replacing my kit 18-55. I am just not happy with this lens. It feels cheap, is hard to manual focus and I am sure my Tamron gives better IQ (though this might be in my head).
I believe that the usual lower end upgrade here is 18-55VR, 18-70 or a 18-105. All these would be used to give better bang for buck.
Are there any other options I should consider? I am not a brand snob, I am very happy with my tamron.
Ideally I want:
A non-rotating end element (think this knocks out the 18-55VR)
A focus ring that doesn't go past infinity or at least has a mark to line up.
VR would be nice also (so not the 18-70) but not a huge issue.
I am not overly fussed about overly fast glass so it doesn't need to be a f2.8 or anything.
There seem to be a Sigma lens (18-50mm). Are these any good? Though would probably force me to buy new as these seem rare used, so would be considerably more than the used nikons.
Any input from people who have used these.
