sticky shutter

For a price anything can be fixed.
You do realise its a film SLR I presume.
 
Yeah have the 1000d and cone across the 1000f and thought it would be nice to have even if I don't use it although it would be nice if I could get it to work. Is there no way I could do it myself?
 
Depends exactly what it is. Is the button or the actual shutter? If the shutter I wouldnt fancy trying it, but others are better with fixing stuff than me. How much is it selling for?
 
Its up to you then. If you feel you can fix it, have a go. It'll cost a lot more than £3.99 to get it properly fixed I imagine.
 
If you are refering to the tar like substance that covers the shutter curtain and causes it to stick then I had a similar problem with my EOS 650.

I used lens cleaning fluid as a solvent to dissolve the sticky substance, but apparenly lighter fluid is supposed to be better (it is a stronger (more non-polar) solvent). I used cotton buds to do the cleaning.

I did have a heart wrenching moment when the shutter didn't work at all when the thing was covered in the fluid, but when it finally evaporated everything was OK. It seemed fine after I did this - looking through the back of the open camera with no lens on and firing shots at all shutter speeds.

I haven't managed to run a full film through yet - I have 22 more exposures to go and have been distracted by a Russian Leica copy rangefinder in the meantime!

Obviously there is great risk if you do this yourself as the shutter curtains are very delicate, but if you don't mind potentially ruining your (£3.99) camera then go for it!
