Howdy - I'm after a new monopod. My current one cant handle the weight of my 1D and long lenses. I'd also like a tilt head mainly for folding the rig whilst moving positions. Main use is pitchside action sports.

Key requirements:

- I'm quite tall at 6'2" so need a long one
- Must pack up as short as possible
- Must have clips to lock/unlock sections not knurled wheels
- Strong, preferably quite large diameter

Any recommendations?

Monopod is easy, there are loads of options. You wouldn't like my solution as it has twist-locks (I find flip-locks always tangle in straps, etc.) The tilt head is a totally different matter. Realistically there are just two options -

Manfrotto's 234RC has the advantage of being very cheap. It has the disadvantage of not being able to support much weight before it suffers from the droops.

Really Right Stuff's High-Capacity Monopod Head will hold anything I've tried on it (7D + 300 f2.8 + TC). But it ain't cheap and you have to import it from the USA.
