If I am taking a pic in good daylight wand crack the F up to get a great DOF am I right in thinking i need to up the shutter aswell?

Increasing the aperture will lower the shutter speed, if you go full manual and set a shutter speed that is fast for the available light and a high aperture, your likely only likely to get dark or even black images - what you need is a tripod :D

Increasing the aperture is actually reducing the amount of light that can pass through a lens and so the shutter speed will get lower, but this allows it to focus at a larger DoF.

if you mean opening up the aperture to give more bokeh, then you need to increase the shutter too, yeah

right, let me think what you trying to say....Do you want to get the subject and background in focus too? If so yes, you'll have to decrease the apperture size (increase the F no) I you put your camera onto AP (canon) it will do the sums for you and adjust the shutter speed automatically. HTH.

late again !!!

Thanks people, exactly what I want to hear :) Now where is my tripod??? lol
