Summer, Aberdeen Beach

Week caught Mike.
Are those boats for servicing the oil rigs or windfarms? Or trawlers?

I found it a bit difficult as the images are quite small, but I'm pretty sure that the one on the left and the two on the right are offshore supply vessels (OSV's). These carry mainly deck cargo, but can also have tanks for carrying mud or cement used in drilling operations.

The other two have larger superstructures and are probably what are known as AHTS's (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessels. These are larger and have more powerful engines, 12,000 bhp or more in the larger ones.

And yes I'm a shipping Anorak, spent six years in a dockyard and nine years at sea as an Electrical Officer:D

A bit of useless information: the term Anorak for a keen hobbyist came about in the 1980's when train spotting was very popular. Locally the spotters were referred to as GANGY's. Green Anorak, No Girlfriend Yet.

loads of pictures of me and the family on Scottish beaches as kids with coats on and our hair coming off us sideways...great memories
