Not a very productive meet and plenty of breeze too but, these were a few from a very poor show, great company though as always, cheers chaps ;)

:clap: Amazing images Alby... Staggering details

Thought I'd have a quick look before I left for work........I knew you'd be the first to post Alby.

An enjoyable evening, as you say, but shame about the light and lack of bugs!

Your shots are super........as expected.........the moth, in particular is a cracker:clap::clap:

Can't see what you've put up Alby due to picture link block on work PC so will peek later at home.
I did have a quick look at my efforts this morning and they are pretty poor it has to be said.

Great shots as always Alby.

I was very disappointed with my efforts. None of my insect shots was anyway near sharp.

The only photos I thought were any good were a couple of flower close-ups.

Jim you aren't alone Mate, it was a tough meet to get any good shots what with the breeze, darkness and lack of insects. I think Andy had the best idea not doing macro.

I took some that were OKish I think, but although I've managed to get them onto my new netbook I can't find a RAW viewer for it, so I can't see them yet.

It was amazing how few bugs there were compared to last time we did it at the place near Southampton Airport.

Oh well, my next macro experience will be bugs on holiday, perhaps they will be more co-operative.

I think you're right Alby, I should have done landscape instead. Mind you I wasn't happy with the few i took with my big lens either :(

Oh well, I might pop back there over the weekend and try getting some pictures of the ducks and scenery.

I didn't take many with the long lens, a few ducks and a couple of Dave Stone chimping but here is one I liked at 400mm.

You didn't do too bad Dave, I like you speckled bush cricket and the ? is a harvestman.Well done Dave (y)

Well done guys. Fab work.

The light was dreadful. The worst conditions I've shot in yet.
But nonetheless, it's was worth every second seeing that mozzy eating Dave :LOL::LOL:

Click for a bigger bloodsucking little swine!!!

Even my Mrs found it extremely amusing when I told her!!!

Some great shots there chaps...........despite the conditions. Here are a few of mine that survived the delete button:

Bloody awesome mate

:clap::clap::clap:

Thanks............I've checked out your Flikr - your landscapes aren't too shabby. I also saw the shot featuring me.........I'll get you for that:D

Super set Keith, that new camera seem to work ok Mate ;) That last shot is a corker too (y)

These are just fantastic ! I love macro photo's, I was immensely happy with the few shots I took today while out ....that was until I saw these :D

...well I lie I'm still happy but these are what I aspire to achieve, thanks for sharing them. May I ask though, how do you get so close in? I took receipt of a 90mm Tamron but I don't think to close-up look as magnified as these.

Best I managed where these which I'm happy with for a first try.

Best of a very bad bunch.

Thanks to all those who've commented on my shots:)

Nice set there Lee.........it was a shame about the conditions though. Still a good evening out(y)

Alby...........I'm sure my new camera will work out just fine - it's the operator who has the problems:LOL:

Talon.........a couple of nice shots there, especially the 2nd. As to getting in close.........most of us just used a dedicated macro lens. A couple of us also have Raynox lenses as well and Alby uses a Canon:)gag:) macro specialist lens! We all used flash in one form or other either ring-flash or off-camera flashes with diffusers.

If you look at the first two threads in the Macro forum, you'll see one on Macro set-ups and a good tutorial.

Really nice shots lads, I was out in the wind that afternoon at my local canal, but at least I had the sun out and loads of insects, not an easy day at all
Crusher I am soo jealous :( I now want a D300 even more then I did before

Super shots Keith - looks like that new camera is working out - but it is 90% user and 10% camera so well done you!

I love the ant shot - is that just with the standard macro lens? (Not sure if you had a Raynox or tubes on)

Love that third shot Lee - what is it?

I haven't got a clue Dave. Think it may have been a moth.

Greats shots coming in despite the conditions. Well played!

Thanks Dave.............just the 105mm macro lens. Haven't yet figured out how to fit the Raynox with the ringflash. I think I need a step up/step down ring! It is a biggish crop though.

I got my Marumi to fit the Raynox by removing the disc on the back of the flash so the ring flash is just hollow, and then using a step up ring on the Raynox which you screw through the hole to hold it in place. Downside is you then have to do the same mod on your normal lens with a different size step up ring, but it does work :)

I bought some extension tubes now, so going to see how I get on with those over the Raynox :)

Thanks.........I'll give that some thought....although it seems very complicated.(y)

WOW all awesome everyone. Fab shots.
