Currently have a Manfrotto 190XB, and a pair of different heads - a 322RC2 Joystick, and a standard 804RC2. These get swapped between this and the monopod. There are times I'd like a bit of extra height, and my rig can be at the upper end of its rated load.

I'm very tempted to go Carbon Fibre, to get a larger/taller tripod with a greater rated load, but without increasing the overall weight.

I've looked online at the 055CXPro - in 3 or 4 section (currently a deal on the 4, only £10 more than the 3 but includes a free head) at £249.

However - I have no experience of Giotto or Gitzo, so all feedback on these alternatives would be gratefully received.

I do need to be able to troll around with it, particularly at weddings - I currently use a a shoulder strap for the 190.

Thoughts from anyone?

The brand get good reviews but I have no experience directly.
and weight is important, ..but you were doing landscape then I think weight is a positive for stability but I can see why lighter is better for most people including weddings

I have the 055CXPRO4 and I'm happy with it. It's CF, compact light and tall enough for me.

I would like a Gitzo but see no real reason to swap out at the moment.

Manfrotto very good quality and fair value

Gitzo, excellent quality, but rather expensive although should see out a good few cameras

Loads of Chinese Gitzo copies, varying quality and price, mainly comes down to what you want to pay

Would say that no matter how good the tripod is, if you buy a poor quality head it's money down the pan

Spec for my 4 leg section C/F tripod below, doesn't have a central column and with the camera mounted is more than fine height wise for me at 6ft

I have the Manfrotto 055 CXPRO3 and can recommend it... tall and sturdy but very light and easy to adjust. I choose the 3 section over the 4 because the extra height was more important to me than the shorter closed length but for your uses the opposite might be true.

The new Giottos Silk road tripods look interesting, very compact with their y shape centre column.
