Tamron 150-600, Canon 100-400 Mk2 or other?

To be fair I rang HDEW to ask about the 7DmkII, very helpful on the phone and in the UK too
 
lots of vouches for hdew on the forum very good can I ask why the sigma 150-600 wasn't a consideration for you?

Because everything I read about the Canon and the reviews it gets sound superb... the IS, sharpness, minimum focus distance, build quality etc. all seem better than the Tamron and Sigmas - the Tamron and Sigmas obviously have the longer reach but I can live with 400mm on crop. Love the ability to "macro" as well with the 100-400, sounds very versatile.. the panning modes and that it's lighter also appeal.

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't bought it yet but I'm not VAT registered anyway, will bear that in mind in future anyway - it'd still be between Panamoz and Hdew from what I've read, both seem good sellers.
 
Canon 100-400mk2 is just superb. I've used Panamoz and they are excellent and that's a fantastic price for this lens!

....I bought my Canon 100-400mm L II from HDEW in February and it's my most used lens. It is very well balanced and a joy to use in all modes. It even takes the Canon 1.4x Extender III very well but AF is slower with it mounted and, subject to which body you use, max aperture becomes f/8 - Not a problem on my 7D Mark II.

Image quality is good even at max aperture. It is as sharp as both my (both now sold) Canon 400mm f/5.6L and 300mm f/4L IS prime lenses.

It isn't a 'macro' lens in the way which the Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro is (my other lens) but it's MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) is about 3ft which is very useful for Dragonflies etc. You can be photographing a Butterfly one moment and a Bird the next moment without changing lens and if a Bird settles very close you can still get a shot. Surprisingly it also performs well with an extension tube when needed.

I have bought several other items from HDEW since and would describe them as 'pale grey' rather than 'grey' - They are a long established UK family business who have moved from retailing on the high street. Their warranty is solid. They are now my first port of call and I prefer their customer service to Park Cameras.

Obviously if you have a limited budget then the Tamron is cheaper.

A little dissapointed in this thread as the title states the 100-400 (cannon) which I have just purchase but not had time to use as yet.. Noone got one?
