Tamron 17-50 v Sigma 24-70

OK, I'm interested in both of these.

I'd love feedback from anyone that has either, or has shot with both. I know Kennysarmy has Just wondering what the feeling is towards them head to head as a comparison and which would make the better lens as a general walkabout.

I've got the 24-70 f2.8 HSM

Its a great lens , It did take me a short time to get used to it and I reckon
pics need a touch more sharpening

I've had some good results with it though

Yep, I've owned both!

In general, I'd say that the Tamron is sharper wide open, but as soon as you stop down it's pretty hard to tell them apart. Sigma lenses get a bit of a bashing on here, mostly by people that have never used them (but heard from a friend who had a focussing issue with one that they're all rubbish), or expect them to be every bit as good at the Canon version for 1/4 of the price

I'd say it comes down to your shooting style, and other kit. I had the 17-50 when I used a crop camera, and the 24-70 on full-frame. I found 24mm a bit too long to be a walkaround lens on crop, but some people love 24-70, and 24-105's on theirs, so it's all down to you! Another factor is size and weight, the Tamron is really quite compact, the sigma is larger, and weighs a fair bit more.

I`d of said the tamron with a 40D just for the focal range, one of my previous lens started at 28 and i just didnt find it wide enough at times.

Although ive just bought a 17-50 myself so maybe a little biased!

My only other bit of bit presently is a 50mm prime so I'm wondering if a 17-50 is going to be too short for day to day stuff!
