Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di ll LD or wait for the VR version?

I have no problems using my 10-22mm handheld without IS but I find that I don't seem to do so well without IS on longer zooms.
I tried a Tamron 28-70 for a few days and I just couldn't get on with it without IS.
So the question begs, go to a shop and try the non VR of the 17-50mm or wait for the VR version?
I've phoned around and although companies have started to list the Canon version of the VR lens on their website, it's only the Nikon version that has been released.
One stop digital have listed the Canon version at a very good price so it would probably be a good idea to wait.
The grapevine has infromed me that the Canon version will be released in November.

I ordered one of the VC ones the other day, but hadn't realised it wasn't actually in stock. The chap I spoke to at the shop rang the supplier and they couldn't give a date when they would have them in

Bought a Sigma in a similar range, although it was f2.8-4.5, but it did have OS and hopefully will be arriving today.

Couldn't find any reviews, but thought it was worth a punt at the not too bad price of £250 incl delivery

Hope to try it out over the weekend and will post up some pics albeit good or bad

Rumour has it as November yes
£375, not bad at all and as long as the IQ is as good the IS is only going to be a benefit.
As to whether you wait, depends how hot that money is and how solid your patience is

When I spoke to the Tamron distributers (Intro 2020) yesterday they were saying its probably going to be end of November before the Canon fitment of this lens is available. Shame as I cant wait to read some reviews and possibly try it out.

The Canon version's a little way off yet but I'm keen to try it... I'd been looking at the Canon IS but it's twice the price of this new Tamron VC lens.

If the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS was more reasonable I'd buy one but they are far too expensive in my opinion.
I think I would rather sit back and wait for Tamron to release the new lens.

Well the IS version is going to be heavier obviously, and will still "feature" the same noisy AF motor inside them. I really beg to differ with regard to the "need" for IS on such a short zoom range but, each to their own. The onestopdigital price looks very reasonable indeed, however, there's always the whole warranty/returns saga of sending back to Hong Kong with them isn't there. However, only time will tell with reviews as to whether the optics are improved/the same/worse.
