was looking at buying the tamron 24-70 vc to put on my new d700 as opposed to the nikon 24-70 mm
its a lot cheaper with 5yr uk warranty and seems to be getting good reviews
what do you think ??????

I'll throw my tuppence in. 28-75 tamron non BIM. Lovely lens, great on my d800. Cheaper than the others.

The 24-70 nikkor is the gold standard but is it worth 700 of your finest English pounds more......that's a decision you'll have to make!

Consider the nikkor 28-70 too.

I absolutely love my (Canon mount) Tamron 24-70mm VC USD. It is sharp wide open, focuses fast and accurately, and the VC is as good as anything I have used on Canon L lenses. Build quality is very very good and the price makes it a bargain. I got mine new from OneStop-Digital.com (Hong Kong based but reliable) for £650.

I was determined to get the Tamron, until I read the comparison with the Nikon 24-70 on CameraLabs.

In that review, the Tamron (as expected) excels in the charts tests, beating the Nikon 24-70 in terms of sharpness at several focus lengths/f-stops settings.

But in the real life pics (the reviewer there calls them 'Unremarkables', I don't know what he means by that) it seems to me that in terms of sharpness, the Nikon beats the Tamron in terms of sharpness hands down at all settings, except one, where they are more or less equal.

I'm not sure why and what, but the pictures are there for everyone to see.
