Tamron 90mm macro lens question

Hi all

I'm looking at getting a macro lens and have decided on a Tamron 90mm.

I know i'll be using manual focus for the macro work, but is it worth me getting a lens with a built-in motor so it will AF with my Nikon D5000 and I can use it as a normal lens as well?

If so, can anyone tell me if this has a built-in motor

I've checked out OSD and they seem to have a good rep on this forum. Still a bit unsure about ordering from Hong Kong though.

There is one on ebay which isn't a Di version. Is this much of a problem?

Better still does anyone on here want to sell one??

Cheers for looking.

I don't think any of the Tamron 90mm Macros are yet fitted with motors, neither are the Sigma 105mm macros. If you need the AF, I think the only (current) option is the rather more expensive Nikon 105mm Micro.
Don't worry too much about the lack of Di designation. IIRC, that just indicates that the lens has a couple of extra coatings to help reduce internal reflections which can cause ghosting and flare if direct light is allowed to hit the front element.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, the new ones have the in-built motor

Just that the OSD one is a lot cheaper, which makes me think it hasn't got an in-built motor.

Guess i'll just have to bite the bullet and pay top whack, or hold out for one on ebay.

Cheers
