Tamron Macro Lens

Not used one of those but I can highly recommend the Tamron 90mm macro....cracking little lens , I use it on my D7000.

Think Digital Rev have them at quite a good price at the mo ( I got mine from them ) but a little more than the lens you're looking at on ebay.

I have the Sony 18-250 (identical to the Tamron) great for travel but not really a macro, I'm with Lynne on the Tammy 90 for macro.

The linked lens in the OP isn't a macro lens.

It may say macro on it but I think all that means is that Tamron think it'll focus a bit closer than you'd expect a superzoom to focus.

For close up and macro of insects etc I think you'll probably be better off looking at a genuine macro lens, something like the Tamron blondie mentioned.

If you're shooting shomething that might take fright and run or fly off it may be wise to go for a longer macro to give more working distance. The Sigma 150mm f2.8 is IMVHO excellent.

Excellent photos. Just the kind of thing I plan on Learning to do.
Think I will go for the Tamron 90, If I can find second hand at a reasonable price.
 
The vivitar/cosina 100mm F3.5 (plastic fantastic) can be found for about £100, it is well liked in Sony circles, cheap build but stunning IQ.

OK, Now I am starting to think about other lenses, preferably about the £200 range.
Like I said I want it for really close up shots of insects ect.
Anyone got any info on this one,Nikon 40mm F2.8GAF-S Nikkor Camera Lens.
 
A 40mm macro lens gives a bit of a short working distance for insects. 90mm/ 100mm or 105mm would be better as it gives you more space between the front of the lens and the subject.

The Tamron 90mm you posted the link for shows at £205 on Digital Rev website.....well worth it for the little extra , I've bought a couple of lenses from them wit no hassle & really quick delivery (y)
 
Or reverse your kit lens... 18-50ish (dont know the Nikon equivalent focals)

Cheapest option of all to try it out...

I know! I just bought mine yesterday - no front lens cap or hood - so £130!!

Get in!

I believe Currys are dumping Tamron altogether. I had a ring around, they arent in every store.
