I use the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and it's spot-on most of the time. It's pretty soft at 2.8 and you need to be sure that you're nailing the focus but from 4.0 it's plenty sharp.
Again, I haven't tried the Sigma, but the Tamron is a gem, IMHO. I focuses just fine in low light (albeit noisily) and mine is fiercely sharp at everything past f/4. Even when I had the money for the Nikkor 24-70mm, I decided to spend it on something else, as this Tamron is as good a mid-range zoom as I'll ever need :shrug:.
