Hi.
I'm looking at get a teleconverter for my canon.eos 550d to be.used with EFS 55-250MM F/4-5.6 IS II

Most keen on 2 x

What do I need to look for to ensure I buy a compatible one !

I've seen a few threads which have put me off buying one in the past.

A 2x on that lens/camera will mean manual focusing and I don't know what the IQ will be like. Also it would need to be something like a Kenko as the canon ones won't fit.

With a 2* converter on that lens the max aperature would be f/11 at full zoom.

You would be best off looking at the sigma 150-500 as it would give you f/6.3 and better image stabilisation.

You'd be better just cropping the middle out of the frame and saving for longer lens/ more pixels.

I have a sigma 150-500 & love it, it gives real crisp pictures BUT there are times when I'm using a smelled lens and would benefit from a teleconverter

But there is no EF-S compatible teleconvertor, they simply don't exist. You are looking for something that doesn't exist.

Hi Bradley
the problem with an EFS lens as I understand it the rear of the lens glass is nearer the sensor, so an extender will not physically fit

Second time I've seen you post that. You're wrong - some Kenro ones will, although why on earth you'd want to use one is a different matter!

sorry just seen how old this thread is.. only replied as im in process of getting a 1.7x TC and have been doing alot of hunting around and research to find the most suitable one

kenko 1.4, maybe try and get previous gen which didnt have a chip in it, passthrough
i highly doubt the lens has the quality for a 2x, 1.4 is being pretty hopeful
