Tesco memory card reader

I bought a £10 memory card reader from tesco tonight as my last one broke (was a very cheap one from E bay so not surprised!)- which I know isn't the most expensive - but would still expect it to work! However, it doesn't!

It brings up 4 drives in my computer (or bridge) but clicking on each gives the same message "please insert a disk into drive X" have tested it on my fiances computer - and his says the same

I have windows XP he has windows 7. I have also tested more than one card in the reader - so know it's the reader and not anything else.

Any idea why it's not working or what I can do to make it work?

Thanks for suggestiong but this just told me that compact flash drive was working ok - but still when clicking on the drives getting the above error messages :S
 
I get that if I select the wrong card slot. Sounds like Gramps could be right, the card either isnt pushed in far enough or is in upside down.

This is difficult with CF cards but not SD
 
Try plugging it into the machine before you turn it on with the card in the reader, sometimes does the trick on my works pc
 
I have an Asda one, very small cheap and flimisy and it's quite tricky to get a CF card all the way in properly, it's quite stiff (got it for the laptop) most lightly the cards not in right, but they are not the best quality readers about so the failiour rate is probably high.
 
If all the drives show up in My Computer then they all should work.

CF cards can take 2 or 3 goes to get seen (and also quite a few seconds).

What about getting an SD card or a card to test the other drives?

assuming your on windows..

with both devices plugged in right click "my computer/computer" select manage, locate "disk management" and you should see 1 drive with no drive letter assigned, right click it and you should see an option to change/assign drive letters, change it to something that is unused and click OK. it should then appear.
