The better newbie

i think it would be better with more scenery and maybe without the persons head in it.

What part were you trying to take the photo of?

the sky is well exposed though and it looks like it could be a really good photo

Yup, have to say, that if you had of composed to thirds rule with the horizon aligned to the bottom third line, whilst keeping the same exposure, that looks like it would be a cracker!
