I imagine some of you are familiar with the Red One camera which has basically revolutionised digital motion capture. The Red company itself is quite awesome too. They are small and have extremely devoted customers due to an excellent product. www.red.com

Anyway they were set to announce new products recently but delayed the annoucement after the 5D2 and D70 announced their video features.

So on November 13 they beleive they are announcing something that will give Canon/Nikon DSLR's a kick in the ass, and they believe it will be more of a revolution to the DSLR market than their Red One was to Video. (huge claim)

Im bloody fizzing to find out how they are planning on doing this, and am obviously very skeptical, it would have to accept a lot of or all third party lenses to start with....

theres a lot to read up here if your interested: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18710
and this:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/27/red-announcing-dsmc-dslr-replacement-on-november-13/

Ill certainly be hanging out till the 13th to see what they're up to and how they're gonna take a chunk out of Canon/Nikons game!:cuckoo:

Given that a basic spec. Red will set you back £15k, for a reasonable setup, I think they will have to do something astonishing to kick Cannon and Nikon in the ass.

BTW Red are cheap cameras... I know a man who was evaluating them and they were £100k cheaper than the next system under consideration.

Chappers, Nikon licensed an entire body to Fuji and Kodak in the past. It wouldn't be too hard for them to make the flange to sensor distance short enough that it's possible to use an adapter to mount pretty much any lens.

My guess along with a lot of others is that it has to be sub USD$3000 to make a dent in Canon/Nikons market

That's gonna be a tall order then...... Just been Reading Chappers link...there's a seemingly informed opinion two thirds of the way down that page I liked... guesses about five grand, ouch ... too much for me, but I can image a market at the high pro end of motor sports or action wildlife.
