Decided a few weeks ago to go full frame and decided on a 5D mk1 but as sods law would have it kept get beaten to the punch here and on Ebay,anyhow 2 weeks ago went to the Wolverhampton camera fair and rather than a 5d picked up a 1Ds mk 1 for similar money.
Well i can now see the attraction,ok its 7 years old and the screen is stone age but the way it feels in the hands the intuitive control layout ,that huge viewfinder and the image quality well I am hooked.

I've had 1ds mk1 bodies in the past as well, there is something about the IQ that is very appealing, almost film like. However you do suffer at ISO's above 800 as the noise gets pretty distracting. Below 400 though I absolutely loved it. And AF was great compared to everything I've had so far (never owned a 7D or 1D series though) .

EDIT: Also those batteries... ugh, such a pain!
 
As an ex 1DsII owner I agree. They're wonderful bodies, but a pita to navigate.
