Yep. The first is way under exposed.

the building and the sky are starting to merge in areas :shrug:

I'd have eased off on the red filter for the sky in the b/w conversion for this reason. Even on the second version, parts of the structure are being lost in the sky.

Under exposed and I personally dont like the angles either :cool: but, if you like it, thats all that counts really!

Because it has potential to be a nice photo but as underexposed as it is then it's not...

Yeah, i guess with many photos it's a matter of which exposure people prefer.
 
The second is certainly the better exposed image, but the composition itself doesn't do much for me; however to a degree we all take photographs for our own enjoyment, and if you enjoy it then surely that's the most important thing?
