Did you capture this in RAW? I'm very much a newbie to photography but if it is a RAW shot then you might be able to expose one image for the sky and one for the remainder to get back some of the burnt hightlights. Nice spot though! GA

Ouch, to be honest something bad has happened, anyway there is potential, great idea with the gate opening to the sunset. You say you've tried dodge/burn, how much of that sunset did you originally have? its severly blown at the moment. 
But the colours are great and the composistion works IMO.
--On second thoughts the picture can work as it is, certinaly it looks somewhat surreal with the light eminating from the prominent hill/peak.
