While on my holiday I went lens shopping and I ended up with a Russian made M42 300mm f4.5 lens which I tried and found quite sharp.

I though that I would also try a cheap M42 2x TC with it thinking that it would give me terrible quality but I would give it a go just for fun.

The 2x TC is an M42 cheapish brand that I bought for £3 on Ebay.

Was I surprised!!!

Below is the image at 600mm WIDE OPEN (f4.5 with 2 stops lost because of the TC giving f9) in cloudy conditions, HAND HELD, 1/125th, ISO 400 on a Canon 500D

In the above data for that picture (which you might find interesting hence posting it for that reason only) I can't seem to find the image being taken at 600mm and the aperture is showing f2. Maybe the data doesn't include the 2x TC. Just wondering thats all because at that distance, even with editing, camera shake
is non existant. So taking all into consideration it is a very nice photo, well done

That's because an m42 lens has no contacts and so cant tell the camera that it's a 600mm so the camera reports its default value (50mm)

That's also why it says the shot was taken at f2 :)

And this is the right answer, give the man a free drink :cool: :lol:

Also the aperture is reported as f2 if you notice and I assure you than I am not using a Canon 50mm f2 :)
 
As Iaid it is a nice photo. I was just wondering about the stats the picture produced. As the lens has no contacts that explains the printout, so thank you very much for pointing that out, something I will have to remember.
