Hi everyone

I'm thinking of buying a tele converter to got with my sigma 120-400 on a Sony body.
This will be used for motorsports,wildlife and air shows..

I'm not sure if I should get the 1.4 x or the 2 x.

Could anyone help me with this decision please

If possible could you post some examples of images with and without a converter.

I don't think you will be able to use a tele converter with that Sigma lens,certainly not the 2x.
 
I have a Nikon 1.7x T/C and it won't even fit on my Sigma 120-400.
If you bought a 2x T/C it would mean you would have an aperture of f9 so the auto focus would not work.
I suppose if you bought a Sigma 1.4x you might get away with it.
 
ive heard several times that 2x teleconverters arent that great, so go towards 1.4

some 3rd party teleconverters just passthrough lens info, so kinda bypassing the f8 oh noes thing

1.4x converter loses one stop and 2x converter loses two stops

Most bodies will retain AF up to f5.6 so 2x converters take an f2.8 lens to 5.6 and a 1.4X converter takes an f4 lens to f5.6

Some bodies (like Canon 1D bodies) will retain AF up to f8 so 2x can be used on f4 lenses and 1.4x can be used on f5.6 lenses
