My third party battery has just died completely for the first time.

The battery has just had 4 hours on charge and it still reads at 0%!

After I bought the battery I did read that third party batteries don't always charge properly.

Is there any way around this? Surely they can't sell third party batteries for a one time usage?
 
Are you trying to charge it on your original manufacturers charger that came with the camera? if so did you buy a fully decoded 3rd party battery? Some cheap batteries are not decoded. If it is not decoded you will need to also buy a 3rd party charger to go with it as undecoded batteries will not charge on the original charger.
 
I've just had to replace my Hahnel battery for my 7D. First charge it went to 50% then the (original Canon) charger just started flashing constantly.
Used it in the camera, didn't last very long at all, and now won't take a charge.

Sending it back obviously, but surprised as the Hahnel aren't mega-cheap so really should work in the Canon charger.
 
Hähnel has a good reputation, so has Duracell, JapCel and a few others.

Beav, you didn't mention any names, but I've just got replaced a brand new (true) Nikon battery, that wouldn't charge more than twice.
The replacement however is nearly impossible to kill and seems to last forever, +800 shots...

My Duracell is also extremely long lasting, but beginning to show its age, as it won't charge to more than 96% now.


Point is, that even "first party" batteries can be faulty, so just get a replacement.



OT! but I still can get my head around, who the "second party" is!? :thinking:
 
A lot of people like third party batteries, but I have had no luck with my EN-EL4a's.
In the end had to buy a genuine Nikon one. One of teh third parties for £15 off ebay melted in the charger (MH-21). A cheap cell was at fault.Almost toasted an expensive charger!
