Nothing left to say...
It's not just Photographers, it's anyone self employed, togs aren't a special case.

I'd hazzard a guess they pay alot less tax and NI than the rest of us.Tell me about it, this country just loves to screw the self employed .......

That rather depends on how much they earn.
Exactly.Or how much they claim to earn...
Or how much they claim to earn...
Believe what you like but I haven't got a box of cash under my bed, at the moment I'm wondering how I'll be able to buy fuel for the winter.
Getting a bit board of all this 'hard done by photographer' nonsense, no one made you do the job.
And as for 10 - 30 mins editing per image, well you're clearly not a photographer!

I don't think it matters how long you spend processing an image.
It matters if photography is your job...
If 80% of a photographers time is taken editing images then a large opportunity exists to improve on that and make their business more efficient.

I was having a discussion with a colleague of mine about airbrushing.
To cut along story short we differed on the amount of time a retoucher/photographer would spend airbrushing a photograph for a magazine.
My opinion is that other then the usual editing that takes place the true extent of airbrushing is not that significant except for certain celebrities.
It's one thing to soften some skin, remove pimples ect but to spend hours on a single photo in today's economic climate it's kinda idiotic.
Thoughts?
1- It's not called Airbrushing... We are not in the 80's anymore.
2- All my work goes to magazines or advertising so I don't have to guess I can tell you - Time can go from 2 hour to 10 hours an image - Depending if t's fashion or beauty, the kind of magazine, deadlines, amount of images, budget, etc.

I spend hours on a single image because that's industry standard.
Photographers in the REAL INDUSTRY work with a team - Very few published photographers do it themselves.
About the "idiotic" part... I'll let you think about it.
