Having backed up 200gb of images, I was wondering if it wise to, or if you can service an imac - i.e a defrag etc?

It seems a lot slower running multiple applications than it did.... :|
 
Generally speaking OSX doesn't need defragging. Its a good idea to keep a nice amount of space free for day to day operation.
 
ummm. verifying and repairing disk permissions is the modern day Mac defragging.

Utilities - Disk Utility - Select the relevant hard disk - verify and then repair the disk permissions.

Will greatly help a laden hard drive :)

There are then a number of third party apps which will "defrag" your hard disk but the verify and repair of disk permissions is a great (and free) way of getting your house in order.
 
Will give that a go later, after a year the disk is getting pretty full, I think I need to have an unused photo amnesty...
 
Thanks Dan. I checked mine last night, had it less than a month, and it threw a bunch of errors on the permissions.
 
Didnt know you used immac, Pete! Its that hairy chest! :naughty: :D

OSX is great but........... and it really pains me to say this........ it isn't quite as stable as we all give it credit for :(

Still better than Windozzzzze by a country mile.. Lights blue touch paper and stands well back :lol:
