What would give a good result to make some of my old bottles and cream pots look interesting?

I would say a better BG or different colour to take them against, they seem to blend in a bit too much thats all.......

Buy a little light tent from ebay or amazon! You get a couple of BGs with it.
Place your flash on top/side and away you go! Easiest and cheapest way to go.

Shoot them on a plain surface avoiding table edges, make sure you get the whole thing in too as chopping off the bottom of the bottle doesn't really look too good. You can make the background more interesting using light, have a look at some bottle shots on the net for some inspiration.

Yes they need to be shot afainst a different BG. I am sure then you will have a much better image.
