Does anyone own this lens and if so what are your thoughts on it? I am debating between this and the Tamron 15-30 VC. Will only see relatively small use but have took the notion for an ultrawide.

Take what ken Rockwell says with a pinch of salt lol. What sort of money were they going for on here

I have used this lens for some gigs and really loved it. If looking to buy one I would test first to make sure thee is no de-centering issue. Otherwise a very well-made, god optical performer for not much cash.

Just bought one. What's the best way to test for that issue pal ?

Hi, you could focus on something like a chequered subject in the centre of the image. Look how sharp the image is in various quartiles around the centre and away from this. You should have a uniform level of sharpness radially. If not, it may be that the lenses have not been joined together in alignment.

Received my Tokina 16-28 today. Very impressed with the build quality and sharpness. Can't believe this lens isn't more popular it certainly seems at least as good as the 17-35 Nikon I had and better than the copy of the 16-35VR I owned

Hi F/1.4, the only drawback to this lens is the bulbous front element which makes the add-on filter kit ridiculously expensive compared to what you can get for the 77mm filter on say the Nikon 16-35.

The Tamron lens though is a great performer. I am sure you will love it !

Tamron version and this one all dont take filters in a traditional way. U need adaptors and square systems, like the Nikon 14-24. They made these lenses to compete with nikons at a better price. Not to offer better features, plus it maybe optically impossible to achieve the same sharpness and width without using the massive front element.

Nikon 17-35 is not in the same category. These guys are gunning at the 14-24

I shot all day with just the 16-28 and I am seriously impressed with its optics. Little bit of vignetting wide open but the performance is amazing. Distortion is extremely well controlled and auto focus didn't miss a single shot
