Although there's not much that comes close to the Gitzo 1541T on all fronts i stumbled across the Benro Travel Angel. Can anyone draw a comparison between them having seen both?

Cheers

Kris

I have one coming any day now, the C-1681, probably early next week. I am away in England on a job for three days next week so will not be able to report back till next Friday.

However I have 2 other large Benros which I can say compare extremely favourably with their Gitzo equivalents in quality terms. In fact I have the C-397 with the optional centre column and I prefer it to the Gitzo. Beautifully made with a quality action to everything.

The travel Angel is for my wife to carry when we go hill walking :D

I've never seen a Travel Angel, but I have no doubt it's every bit as well made as my Benro C-257.

Thought about getting one (C-269 or C-169 5-section with J-1 head were the ones I fancied) because they are really small and pack inside a suitcase, but the carbon C-257 is so light anyway that, apart from the folded length, there's not much of an advantage for me.

Importers Kenro have just started distributing Benro in the UK, like only this week, so you might find one in the shops sometime, but their prices are not so good as our friend DC on ebay.

Thanks fellas for the feedback. I think the C-169 combo you mention Rich sounds a no brainer will get one no doubt next month or so.

If you go for the C-169, I think the head to go for is the J-0 (or B-0) not the J-1 I mentioned. That's okay for the C-269 but won't let the legs fold flush on the smaller model.

I would want the bigger/stronger ball which is the main reason I prefered the C-269. That's pretty much a full size tripod when you get it put up, but is still very light and folds down amazingly small. It's only 371mm all in

I think you're right Rich looking at them again, still only 1.58kg together and easily popped into the suitcase. My only concern is stability with 5 sections but you can't have your cake both ways i guess.

That's incredibly small and light for a good sized tripod and a decent head. If you're concerned about flex having 5-sections then the C-269 is deffo the one to go for with slightly thicker tubing.
