Hi all,

First post, so here goes.... :)

I have just got myself a Canon 450D and am looking for a bit of advice on a good affordable tripod.

I've also just bought a second hand 100mm macro lens so the tripod needs to be sturdy enough to take the weight of that.

Any help/advice much appreciated

Steve

Thanks for the quick answer.

Any advice on what type of tripod as there seems to be a dizzying array to choose from.

Thanks

If it's just for macro stuff, not too far away from either your house or car, the RedSnapper 3 section alloy legs will be fine.

If you plan on waling with it, the 4 section legs will be better as it packs down a bit smaller. You may also want to look at the CF version to keep the weight down, but that starts getting expensive.

I'd like the use the tripod for macro and walking really.

So I need to look for 4 sectioned legs?

i would recommend the manfrotto 190xprob+460 3D head.

the combo is quite compact and very good for macro work. the legs can be spread very low and the ability to change the central column from vertical to horizontal setting is in valuable for getting close to your subject.

But it will set you back by around 150 squids.

Thanks for help,

What sort of head do I need to look for,:thinking:

The Manfrotto is nice although costs a bit as you said.

Have not heard of Redsnapper before, I guess they are good quality?

Manfrotto 055
Had mine for years, rebuilt practically because all parts are available as spares and very solid too
Best not to use the central single post though, has been said before, but why buy a tripod if you really wanted a monopod

As for heads I use a Cullmann Magnesit Ballhead and its excellent, I do like the quality of German engineering
