Tripod bolts/screws for vintage cameras

I have a varied selection of vintage cameras ranging from Brownies through to whole plate Marion cameras.
From what I understand, (please correct me if I'm wrong!), the standard tripod attachment sizes are 1/4 or 3/8 inch . I have a suitable wooden tripod, however I have no retaining bolts.
Can anyone offer any help as to where I may be able to obtain them or perhaps someone has some lying around.
Although english, I do not live in the UK so being able to nip to the local car boot and do some searching is not an option for me.
 
The sizes are 1/4 and 3/8 Whitworth thread. (you could cut them to length)
Most good engineers suppliers would have them, as would many camera shops.
 
Thank you for cofirming the sizes and thread type.....I'm not sure wether whitworth will be available locally here in France (perhaps it is predominantly a UK thread??). As you can see this is not an area that I am very knowledgeable in!
 
I've used UNC bolts (instead of Whitworth) to DIY clamps for holding flash triggers fitted with standard 1/4" tripod threads. Whitworth and UNC are not generally interchangeable due to differences in the thread, but at 1/4" they are close enough.

I might have some spares (if I can find them). What length do you need to pass through the tripod and project the other side? How will the bolt be held? (i.e. will you need a nut on the opposite side).

The only whitworth UNC not interchangeable is ½ in whitworth is 12tpi unc is 13 tpi
 
I've just been doing some measuring:

The thickness of the tripod plate is 15mm then the thread enters into the base of the cameras by another 5mm ( 10mm on the camera requiring a 3/8 fitting). In addition there will be the neccessary length to fix a retaining bolt (and possible washer) on the underside of the tripod plate .

I appologise for giving the measurements in mm but I have no means of measuring in inches !! If only things were more uniform....there again how boring would that be!
