Tripod Collars

I've seen after market ones for Canon, but they are still type A, B etc - I presume it's to do the the circumfrance of the lens.

Might be worth measuring your lens' circumfrance and seeing if they list a collar with an internal circumfrance to match your lens ?

The collar part number you seek is TMC-1071W.

Try contacting Sony although I'm led to believe in the past they'd only sell the collar with the lens.
 
the problem with the beercan is the grip rotates and its big, sooo the classic position isnt possible :(, so maybe in front of zoom ring but foot pointing back..
but ive measured in front of the zoom ring, its 71 to 72mm

you would need some method to stop it falling out too, as there would be no groove to sit in
 
should fit any tube thats about 72mm.. its a chinese clone so just made to fit certain lenses

as for a retainer i thought a 55mm to 77mm step up gring would stop it slipping completely off the end, should it ever come abit loose.
 
Marc, some sticky backed plastic (or double sided tape and a little felt) should give enough "squidge" to take up any slack if needed.
 
Tripod collars are lens-specific as they need to be an exact and solid fit. The chances of a collar made for one lens properly fitting another are close to nil.

I'm beginning to think you're right Richard. Looking at the lens and given I plan to attach the sling strap to it so it will be dangling at my side, it doesn't look like there would be a way to attach a collar in the right place so that the weight could be distributed effectively.

Never mind, it was worth a thought.
 
i might get one for use with our gimbal
what strap system you use? i get on ok with optech stuff with my a77 + bunch of lenses and sometimes grip sometimes not

That's generally the case Richard although Canon managed to avoid producing a new ring for the 100/2.8 USM (non-L) by supplying an additional nylon sleeve that fit inside the tripod ring and took up the slack.

you could try and get something so you hang off camera lug instead? Not had a issue with that
the beercan is front heavy lens too, might be why you having issues with it
