Hey guys...I have just got an old 1930's german tripod that packs down to almost nothing and is very lightweight...perfect, as I am an archaeologist and often have to carry tripods into the field...

Problem is, the male thread coming out of the top of the tripod is 3/8 inch...and my camera has a 1/4 inch female internal thread!! Have been looking online and struggling to find an adaptor which a), isnt about 15 quid with 8 quid packaging, and b), isnt a 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch adaptor, i.e. the wrong way round!!

Does anyone know where I might get an affordable and effective adaptor?

Also, would this work?! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Oxy-Acetylene...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35a910e843

cheers, Tim

Hi there...thats a kind offer, but is the wrong way round, which is the problem I have been having...I have a modern cheapy digital camera, with a smaller 1/4 inch internal thread on it, and the new tripod I have has a larger 3/8 inch male thread attached to the legs...I need to find something to convert the larger 3/8 thread on the legs into a 1/4 thread that will fit my camera! cheers anyway!

No problem. Sounds like you want one of the Manfrotto converters like this, but they aint cheap!

no woriies...thats what I was afraid of!...what did you make of the link I added?

Well, it would probably work, but your camera would sit too high and become unstable in my opinion!

well thanks guys! ceejay you are a star!...all ordered and paid for!..

just out of interest, does anyone know if the tripod would have any value at all?...its in a leather case with "Otto Herrmann" stamped on the inside flap of the case. THe tripod itself is very lightweight, poss crome?...three piece legs that have pop out pins which hold them apart when extended. THe Name "Rotu" is stamped on the side of the silver coloured block that holds it all together, and the thread that I was originally posting on is attached to a ball joint, with a thumb screw at the side to stop it moving around. Cant find much on the net about it?...possibly because the "u" in "rotu" has the two commas above it, and i dont know how to replicate it!!
