Tripod up to £100

Looking for some advice...

I dont usually use a tripod for my camera but am looking for one for my portable studio flash, not really considering a light stand because the tripod can be dual purpose. Im currently using a very cheap aluminium tripod but the head is plastic and everything lacks stability when theres even a slight bit of wind. I can hear the plastic head creaking :eek:

Just had a quick look but the Benro A2970F seems decent, so does the Manfrotto 055XPROB. Looking to spend £100 max, used may be better.

Any recommendations?

A Konig lightstand is about £15 (Amazon link) and will give you a lot more height than any standard tripod, why compromise by using a more expensive and less capable tripod?

As for tripods, you need to consider the weight of camera and the heaviest lens you'll be using. You don't mention either of these, so tripod recommendations will be a bit hit or miss..

I have one of them, Im mainly using the tripod outdoors and the light stand has less stability on uneven ground as legs arent adjustable like a tripod, so in my case a light stand wont be much good, plus I need to carry sand bags and I have less confidence in the lightstand with my flash up that high than I do in my bargain basement tripod. 1.7m - 2m height is okay.

Gear is - D750 and heavy primes, probably up to around 2.5kg.
Lighting - Lencarta Safari Atom with smaller modifiers up to around 1.5kg

Another thumbs up for Redsnapper (y)

Another option, to consider if time is not pressing, is to wait and see if anything comes up in the classifieds on the forum.

Thanks, I have a redsnapper mono and its decent for little money, been keeping an eye on the classifieds, may be an idea to post a wanted.

You know it's details like these that make answering so much easier if they're in the opening post.. .. ;)

Tent pegs or baby ground anchors (with or without string for guy ropes - without guys peg through the leg braces of the stand) are lighter than sandbags if you're outdoors and on ground soft enough to use them..

I'll try and find a link, but I did see an impressive DIY lightstand hack a while ago that combined the adaptability of tripod legs with the height of a lightstand - looked perfect for outdoor work.

Aye, but I thought you were just being tight - or thought lightstands were pricey.. :D
