All un-cropped full frame using an older 500mm F7.2 Sigma.
Forced to use ISO800 to get exposure time manageable and found that a "connection" error if I tried to focus at or near infinity. My pal bought it my mistake on ebay . . . did not look fully at what he was after on an aution that was in the last minute!

This compares with the Sigma 200mm f.2.8 taken using ISO 100 at the same distance but cropped taken a few minutes after the first three.

Stick em both back up on Ebay :D
Tbh I am not sure if you are looking for an opinion as such on the lens, as they all seem a bit noisy and oof to me , it is hard to actually pass judgement in all honesty ;)

Nice pics but it doesn't seem to be the sharpest of lenses

The last is starting to show what you can achieve, but it has some 'orrible purple lines around the branches. Bit of PP to knobble the fringing, boost the sats and USM and you'll be getting there.

Bit more practice and you'll be up there with CT

the last the dunnocks my fav (y)

It must be a very over-fed dunnock - it is a female blackbird! The dunnocks are sweet, but rarely get up that high in the branches staying usually below 6 ft and ground feeding. A devil to get the tripod angled down to get a decent picture.

Obviously the new lens isn't much cop - the CA is a bit much as well as the lack of sharpness. The 200mm is fine though and seems very sharp to me (looks like focus was on the eye and was shot wide open?).

Just had a look at the exif..1/100 at f6.3 at 200mm 3.9meters distant and iso 100 It must have brightened up more than I thought between snow showers. Fill- in flash used. Approx 50% crop. Processed and exported from Lightroom 2. I try and focus on the eye if possible.

I think my friend made a major mistake when bidding on ebay without thinking - he was looking for a 18-200 Sigma or Tameron.
