You would lose the shadow in the first one if you moved them further away from the background.

tweaked the background " this needs selecting then using the dropper tool in levels"
usm
little border .

also not sure if you've noticed but cloned out one of the catchlights as i personally dont like two in one eye..

Did notice the clone out but didn't realise it needed doing.

That must happen because of the two light I used..

You couldn't give me a basic guide though for what you did.

I did boost the levels but that was for the whole pic.

Just had a quick mess with the eye dropper in levels but didn't get any where near the effect you have.
