We've had some nice clear skies in the evenings recently, so last week I had my first serious attempt at photographing the moon. I'm sure I can do better with practice, but I'm quite pleased with this as a first effort.

350D, 100-400L @ 400mm plus 1.4x Extender (560mm actual, 900mm equiv FOV), ISO 400, 1/640th @ f/8 handheld.

It's a nice sharp shot, I have tried so many times to get a decent moon shot but they always turn out soft.

Well obviously I've applied a bit of sharpening as part of the PP, but nothing excessive. To be honest I was quite impressed how well the 100-400 + 1.4x combo performed. (The fact that it was handheld wasn't relevant, given that it was shot at 1/640th with the IS on.)
 
Handheld? WOW, wish I could held my camera that steady! Nice shot, I like it
