I need a couple more memory cards for my trip to Australia. As I now have a 50D I can make use of the UDMA cards. Other than providing faster transfer, are there any other benefits ?

Thanks,
Steve

Faster comms, so the cameras buffer empties quicker.
Downside - you will need a card reader for thos big files or the data transfer between camera and PC will drive you nuts.

With a UDMA USB reader the one i just sent back was very fast to transfer to the computer - 3.7Gb in 2 mins. Took a chance on Hama branded but had a couple of read errors with it so it went back. Awaiting arrival of Transcend 400x 16Gb now.

Read speed is more important to me as i don't shoot bursts and worry about the camera buffer. Just a case of what is fast enough for you.

I'm going to visit Australia later this year too. Netbook and external 500Gb drives for backup are my planned storage solution.
