Todays LR3 rant is...

Why is it so damn slow to even clone out a black spot using the clone tool!!
20seconds per clone out, wtf!?

Anyone else got some good LR3 rants?

its bloody fast for me.. and wait till you find the manual lens adjustments...

already found them. Its a great program but its running very slow compared to LR2. Even just going through the pictures is slow.

I'm running LR3 on a 2.6GHz 27" iMac i5, and it certainly isn't low, and I'm handling 28Mb files, no problem.

When you converted your LR2 catalogue did you optimise it? This basically sets up the catalogue with the new fields and get rid of the c**p. It can make a difference. If you haven't optimised the catalogue you could try that and see if it makes any improvements

A lot of the modules in LR3 were rewritten from the ground up, so they may require some extra resources. Having said that I noticed no speed difference comparing LR2 to LR3

What amount of Ram do you chaps have inside?

My catalogue is 791mb, cant find the optimise button although it says the last optimise was the 27th of july

don't know about lightroom but
a) have you got enough space on your hard drive(s)
b) have you defragmented them lately?

By default Lightroom 3 optimises the catalogue when you back it up. Look at the check boxes in the backup splash screen next time you back up.

maybe i'll look to get another 4gb as im running w7 64bit

Windows defrags on its own.

Yes it does but only one pass over per defrag, do it youself at the end of the day..;)

5D II files are pretty large remember! But Lr3 is fine for me. Q6600 processor and 6Gb RAM

LR3 is faster on my son's P4 shuttle, is usable on my Dell 420 laptop with 2Gb ram (which LR2 wasn't really), and flies on my main PC's.
