Upgrade Advice

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade from my Sony A100. I feel this camera limits me some what in terms of ISO/noise.

Obviously i would like to stick with sony as i have some decent lens for it.

Any suggestions?

What sort of budget do you have, and are you looking for new only or happy with s/h?

I've got about 350 And I don't mind second hand, infact all my lens and camera are second hand lol.

Personally I'd be looking for an A700 for that sort of money s/h, but it depends if you're looking for live view or video (the A700 has neither).

I'd opt for a 2nd hand Sony a580 a cracking camera with all you'll ever need

Ive had both the a700 and a580 and my money is on the a580 it copes better at higher ISO than the a700 too Matt

or save up and buy an a65 :lol:

Agree, the A580 is the better if High ISO is what you are after, but in many other ways the A700 beats the A580 - 0.9 magnification Pentaprism viewfinder v 0.8 pentamirror, 1/250 vs 1/160 flash synch, 1/8000 vs 1/4000 max shutter, DOF Preview, Front and Rear Control Dials (this, for me, is now a must have feature).

I never even noticed the A700 had DoF preview, will take a look now when I get home!

My excuse is that it is my wife's camera but I thought I knew it inside out...

It's the button that's hidden on the bottom right of the lens mount (IE grip side).

it will do but it's also still one of the best for IQ at low ISO.
How high ISO-wise do you want to go??
What do you shoot?

I shoot everything and anything at the minute but I find at an ISO of 800 plus sometimes even 400 it struggles with noise,

I have both an A580 & A700 plus an A200 (same CCD as A100).
Imo the A580 does a bit better at high ISO than the A700 but the A700 handles better.
But the A580 also has a tilting screen, liveview & video.

& tbh I still prefer the IQ from the CCD of the A200 at low ISO than the CMOS in both the A580 & A700.
